Schedule 2nd year assesments - Monday 19 dec

During these short individual assessments you show your work (as finished within the exhibition as possible) & process book.

We should already know about your project and won't have time to discuss anything new. However: you can give a brief explanation of any recent changes that we otherwise might not understand, but keep it short and clear!

Make sure you use the time before & after the assessment and your tutorials at KABK to set up the exhibition. All setting up should be finished before 4 pm
Golden rule: it always takes at least two hours more than you now think to set up an exhibition!!! - unexpected things always happen (even when you 'just have to put a book on a table...) - so keep this in mind!).

Is the time below impossible or are you not on the list? Let me (Babette) know as soon as possible

AB4 is the place & planning for this Friday

Dear Playlab,

Through graphic designer Renate Boere (DRS22 & Studio Renate Boere) we have found an exhibition space! We will have 7 classrooms & hallways in AB4, a new broedplaats in The Hague in the Schilderwijk. See website: http://abvier.nl
AB4, Abraham van Beyerenstraat 4 / 2525 TG 's-Gravenhage

It's an old school, with classrooms very recently made into studio's for artist - of which a few are still empty, which is why we can use them. It's a great place!!!
This is a very big favor Renate is doing us... so we need to make sure we leave the place absolutely cleaner and better than we found it!

Also - you might have seen the (terribly-bad-iphone-) pictures on facebook - we have a two-floor apartment in Transvaal that we can use in the next weeks to do site-specific projects.
Reitzstraat 208, Den Haag. It could be amazing to work in this empty house on your project! if it fits what you're working on of course.

We will visit both places this Friday. Check out the schedule en application-rules for the Reitzstraat below!

This Friday
09:00 - 11.00 Morning group Individual assessments 3rd yrs & talks with 2nd yrs
11.15 OOG
11.30 PBR will leave KABK with Morning group
12.00 - 12.15 Morning group @ the PlayLab-Space @ Reitzstraat 208
12.30 - 13.00 Morning & afternoon group @ AB4
13.15 - 13.30 Afternoon group @ the PlayLab-Space & Reitzstraat
14.00 PBR & Afternoon group back at KABK
14.00 - 16.00 Afternoon group Individual assessments 3rd yrs & talks with 2nd yrs
16.00 the final OOG

Afterwards (before Monday - so Sunday at the very latest) students need to tell PBR (by emailing Babette these 4 answers):
1. whether they want to use the Reitzstraat between now and 19 december (you need to apply for this - explain why & how you would want to use the space and which room you would like to use & when - if there's a lot of applications PBR decide who get's a space)
2. on what days can they look after exhibition. (exhibition will be open between 12:00 - 16:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
3. Where you would prefer to exhibit within AB4 and if you need anything special.
4. promise to take responsibility for their own work and help clear up on Thursday 22 dec (both your own work and the whole space)

Final Schedule

Below is the final PlayLab schedule, please make sure all is in your diaries! With a little delay, because we (PBR) wanted to make sure the schedule was correct and as convenient as possible for all.

NB the exhibition is @ AB4 - this is not confirmed yet, but we should know very soon!

2 December - talks with tutors & preparing the exhibition @ KABK
(How will you present your work? who designs the promotional campaign?, will Tom organize the 'hapjes'?, who knows a lot about electricity?, What sort of equipment do you need? who will you invite? Who will look after the exhibition on Tue & Wed, who will battle? etc, etc.)

9 December - Individual assessments for GO 3 & normal PlayLab for GO 2 @ KABK
- 3rd years show work (on walls, paper, computer or beamer, whatever your preference) to all three tutors together.
We realize not all work might be finished (since the real deadline is the exhibition) but you need to make sure you show us enough to be able to grade you! We will also need time to talk to 2nd years, present your work and/or your questions to us in a clear way, so that we don't loose time.

15 December - GO 3a collective assessments @ KABK

16 December - GO 3b collective assessments @ KABK

One-day-mini-project (& homework for those who were not here on 14 Oct)

On the Facebook-playlab-page place a statement about what you consider to be psychogeography accompanied by an image illustrating this statement.

Your statement may be accurate or poetical (or both). Your statement should be original (meaning that if someone already posted what you wanted to say, you should come up with something else, so don't wait too long with posting...).

Statement & image should be made by you (i.e. not by google image ) - from your research so far or a new image ). You can post as many statements as you want.

If someone else posted something you don't understand it might be wise to ask them what they meant.

If you're not on facebook: ask someone who is to place your stuff.

What to do for the presentations after the holidays

Show/tell us and your fellow students in a five minute visual beamer presentation:

- how you've interpreted psychogeography (include proof of research) and how this is used in your work
- in one or two sentences describe your conclusions so far and what the (visual) follow up of these conclusions might be
- articulate on how you plan to find your concept/medium within the next week(s). Why would you use this particular medium?
- a clear plan of what you will research and do in the following weeks

Psychogeography: Lost in London.

Psychogeography: a beginner's guide. Unfold a street map of London, place a glass, rim down, anywhere on the map, and draw round its edge. Pick up the map, go out into the city, and walk the circle, keeping as close as you can to the curve. Record the experience as you go, in whatever medium you favour: film, photography, manuscript, tape. Catch the textual run-off of the streets; the graffiti, the branded litter, the snatches of conversation. Cut for sign. Log the data-stream. Be alert to the happenstance of metaphors, watch for visual rhymes, coincidences, analogies, family resemblance, the changing moods of the street. Complete the circle, and the record ends. Walking makes for content; footage for footage.
